As a mom keeping your kids healthy and nursing them back to health when they are sick is just what we do. Like most moms out there you may have a homemade soup you go to every time your little one isn’t feeling good. Mine is my mom’s broccoli chicken broth soup.
But when it comes to health scares from the coronavirus, as a mom you can’t help but feel helpless. Should we hope for the best and just wait till outbreaks happen in our community or do we take action?
Here’s what you should know and do, to prepare for the Coronavirus
According to the CDC, “It’s not ‘if’ but ‘when,’ the coronavirus will spread to the United States. This report was given on February 25, 2020. As a mom when I heard this I instinctively go into “get prepared” mode.
So how do us Mom’s get prepared for a Coronavirus?
1. Stay updated.
Now there are 60 known cases in the United States. It seems every day there are new cases arising globally and its good to stay in the know so you’re not blindsided if things get worst. The most recent news I saw today was that schools are canceling study abroad programs and there is a growing fear that we will see an outbreak in our local communities. The reality is scientists are working to contain it but there is still a lot that we don’t know about the virus.
2. Take all the steps recommended by the CDC for prevention.
CORRECTION: do your own research and make sure the steps recommended by the CDC makes sense for your individual child.
The CDC offers the following tips for protecting your family from the coronavirus (as well as other respiratory illnesses):
- “Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.”
- “Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.”
- “Avoid close contact with people who are sick.”
- “Use disinfecting hand sanitizers.”
3. Prepare an Emergency Food, Medicine and Other Supplies
Stack up on all canned foods, rice, beans, peanut butter, any non-perishable items with a long shelf life. Just in case you are contained in your home you will have food to last you and not have to rely on going out, risking exposure or shortage of food in your local markets. True Fact, in Italy eight people died and the news reporters went into the local markets and saw that all fruits, vegetables, and canned items were completely gone. A market wipeout.
The bottom line is it’s better to be over-prepared than underprepared. Don’t wait till its too late, act now.
